Which languages can I learn?
Spanish, English, German, French, Russian, Chinese, Italian and Portuguese. Explanations come in your anchor language: German, English, Spanish, French, Russian or Chinese. That makes 42 combinations, for example Chinese explained in Russian.
What is an anchor language?
The language everything is explained in. Tasks, corrections and feedback arrive in your anchor language while practice and speaking happen in the target language. You understand every hint and still speak the new language from the start.
How is LumaLingua different from other language apps?
The next step stays locked until the words of the previous one have actually stuck. Progress is measured per word, not as a total score. Finishing a lesson without mastering it means repeating rather than advancing. And there are speaking sessions with a real voice instead of typing drills only.
Do I need a subscription?
No. You buy speaking minutes when you need them. Nothing to cancel, no minimum term, no minutes that expire. If you only do the exercises, you never pay anything.
Can I try it for free?

How do the speaking sessions work?
You talk through your microphone with an AI voice that knows your level. It explains in your anchor language, practises with you in the target language and corrects at most one or two things per turn. Five voices are available and can be previewed. No audio is stored.
Which level is LumaLingua for?
A0 to B1. A0 means no prior knowledge at all. The level adapts if your answers suggest an earlier or later starting point fits better.
Is LumaLingua suitable for children?
Child profiles require a parent’s email address and explicit approval. They only see age-checked topics, parents see progress and set a spending limit. Speaking sessions are currently disabled for child and teen profiles; exercises and listening samples are available.
How much time does a learning step take?
Six to fifteen minutes. You decide how long a session should be and how often per week you want to learn.
